RECENT PHOTOGRAPHY TRIPS

August 2022: Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho

Four days backpacking, hiking, and photographing the gorgeous Sawtooth mountains in Central Idaho.  I will be staying in Stanley, Idaho which is the gateway to the Sawtooths.

September 2022: Redfish Lake, Idaho

I will spend three nights of astrophotography at and around Redfish Lake.  This area is designated an official International Dark Sky location.  Dark sky locations are fast disappearing, making it more difficult to capture those breathtaking photos of the Milky Way.   But this location still provides that opportunity.

May 2022: Bisti Wilderness of New Mexico

Next may I will be embarking on a week long adventure into the remote Bisti Wilderness of New Mexico.  This is a combination backpacking/hiking/astrophotography outing.  Every night for 5 nights (along with a few other crazies) will be heading out on a 5 mile round trip to capture the stars and Milky Way, with the bizarre rock formations as foreground.   Another bucket list item to be crossed off the list.

March 2022: Savannah & Charleston

This is A deviation from the traditional nature & wildlife destinations.   This trip will prioritize southern gardens and architecture of Georgia and South Carolina, nature preserves, and a day in Congaree National Park.

February 2022: Alaska Aurora Borealis

I will be travelling to Alaska to photograph the northern lights. March is typically the best month to see this incredible phenomenon, so hopefully I will return with some award-winning images.  I fly into Fairbanks and meet up with some colleagues for this long-awaited adventure.  In addition to chasing the aurora borealis, we will spend one full day in an ice cave, one day visiting the Iditarod dog sled teams, and some time at the ice carving festival. We will also journey north above the Arctic Circle near the Gateway of the Arctic National Park in search of wintery landscapes and wildlife.  It definitely will be a trip of a lifetime.

May 2021: Capitol Reef National Park

Originally planned for April of 2020, this trip was postponed a year due to the COVID-19 virus. There is one National Park in Utah I have never visited, Capitol Reef National Park.  I will spend a week in Torrey Utah to explore the area with some fellow photographers to some unknown and off-the-beaten paths.   Of course I can't head to Utah without a few days in Arches and Canyonlands as well.  I hope to return with some incredible photos of these beautiful National Parks.

April 2021: Astrophotography in Central Utah

This will be a relatively short trip (4-5 days) to central Utah focusing on astrophotography.  The locations will be more remote and off the beaten path.  There are so many great areas in Utah beyond the National Parks.

October 2020: Southern Utah

This fall I am planning a 1 week photography tour of southern Utah.  There will be short stops in Zion & Bryce National Parks before heading to the Grand Staircase Escalante area.   The trip will conclude with an excursion to White Pocket, which is a destination I've had wanted to visit for a few years.

October 2020: Mastering Fine Art Printmaking Workshop

I will be attending the Ultimate Fine Art Printmaking Workshop in Las Vegas to fine tune and optimize my expertise in the creation of large fine art photography prints.   This workshop will be led by Mark Metternich and Robert Pak, who are widely recognized as the best print-makers in the world today.  I always strive to keep learning and improve on whatever I do.  Keeping up with the latest technology is critical so I can continue to deliver the highest quality products to my clients.

August 2020: Summer in the Palouse

I have spent countless days and nights photographing the Palouse country, usually in the May/June timeframe.  It's one of my favorite locations for landscape photography.  But this year will be a little different.  Rather than visiting in spring, I want to capture the wheat fields after they have turned to gold.  I'm looking forward to finding some different colors and compositions this time around.

June 2020: Badlands National Park

In early June I will head to South Dakota for my first visit to Badlands National Park.  There will be stops to Wind Cave National Park, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse as well.   However, the highlight will be photographing the amazing landscape and terrain of the Badlands.

Feb 2020: Oregon Coast

We will be traveling down south to the Oregon Coast the end of February for some great photography.  Stops along the way will include Astoria, Newport, Yachats, and Bandon.   I hope to come back with a handful of great images!
